Does anyone else get uncomfortable in big crowds? I am a little claustrophibic, and I seem to get uncomfortable in big crowds. For instance I went to eat this evening before the big crowds got there, and while we were eating it started to get crowded and I could barely finish my meal. I'm the type that likes to go eat, and go to movies, but I prefer to do it when it isn't crowded? Anyone else like that.

Very much so. I cannot be around alot of people. I get very nervous and feel out of place. I think It's because I feel that people should think and act like me so naturaly I feel out of place. Im much more happy being alone or with family or one close friend I have. I also go shopping for whatever I need early in the morning just so Im not around alot of people and I do not like going out to eat at all so youre not alone and I dont think their is anything wrong with being like this, It's just the way we are. If thats what makes us happy then It's ok.

You sound a little agoraphobic. My friend was like that to an extreme. She couldn't even go grocery shopping. She would go into the store and buy a weeks worth of groceries for seven people in about fifteen minutes; she'd run in, grab a cart and run around the store just tossing stuff in as fast as she could so she could get out. And she couldn't drive or go to the mall. She would positively pass out in the mall. She went to a group called
Recovery. She only went once because she couldn't stand to be there, but she got the literature and read the book and within about six months she began to work herself back into the world. She could then drive and go to the mall again. You should see somebody to help you with this problem before it gets any worse and maybe won't take as long to get over it. I'll pray for your recovery.

I used to be like this before I had kids. I like to be able to enjoy my meal or whatever without being self concious about what other people are doing or are they looking at me. Now I go during off peak hours because I have 6 kids and it's easier on the wait staff to tend to all of our needs if the place isn't too busy. Plus it spares the other patrons listening to my 2 and 4 year old whining about why it's taking so long and them getting antsy when they finish eating before my husband and I are done. Same thing at the movies we take up the row in back for the wheelchairs b/c of the extra room and they bring book lights and small toys or blankies so they can play and crash when they want to and not have to stay still in one seat for 2+ hours. I still enjoy not having to battle the crowds though. Keeps me at my own pace, not society's.
