Hi There, well here's my story i am 18 years old i had my last period on 11th September 2006. I took a pregnancy test on Monday 2nd October which showed up negative.
i then took another one Thursday the 12th 4 days after my period was due and it was positive.
I attended the early pregnancy unit as i was having light period like pains but NO bleeding they carried out an internal vaginal scan they found a sac and a baby but no heart beat. The doctor has asked me to go back in 10 days for another scan..Does anyone have any suggestions on how far gone i am or why they did not find a heart beat for the baby ?? Help would be very much appreciated. Thank you...x

Honey don't worry the heartbeat can't be detected until around the 8th week -i had this with my baby she's now 6-
Relax take it 1 day at a time. It's a good sign seeing the sac.
The pain is your uterus stretching.
good luck.

every baby and pregnancy is different but using the info you gave:
going by your lmp of 9/11/06 :
Your baby will be born on or around: June 18, 2007
You are 8 weeks pregnant and in your 9th week.
assuming you have a normal cycle (28 days): Based on your answers, you're likely to be most fertile from Friday, September 22, 2006 to Wednesday, September 27, 2006. If you were to get pregnant during that time, your due date would be Monday, June 18, 2007.
to read about week nine in your pregnancy: http://www.babycenter.com/mybabycenter/109.html
now as a mom of 2 and due with #3 in less then 13 weeks I can tell you that normally they can see much more at this time via u/s. babys heart starts beating at 6 wks or so. you may not have "normal" cycles. (mine are 34 day cycles so I "O" later which means the calculators don't give me the correct due date) which may be your case too.So no matter what anyone can tell you here you'll have to play the waiting game and wait for your next scan to see whats up. Your lil one may just be due later. Hopefully all goes the way you want it to. Good luck to you!
check out http://www.babycenter.com/ and http://americanbaby.com/ both have the due date predictors and babycenter has the ovulation calc where you can fine tune it to your cycles and get a more accurate date.

if the age of the foetus is less than 9 weeks it can be very difficult to find a heartbeat with a normal doppler scan...i know my midwife tried when we thought i was 9 weeks it turned out at my 12 week scan i was one week behind what i thought. and i now have a healthy 6 month old.
the reason your pregnancy might not have shown up on the test you took on the 2/10 was that you might not have produced enough HCG (pregnancy hormone) for it to show up yet., so that's again not abnormal...
i would suggest that the doctor would like you to go for another scan in 10 days time to see how far gone you are because it's at 9 weeks that they start to detect the heartbeat so your probably about 7 - 8 weeks....and that's fine it just means you didn't ovulate and get pregnant on day 14 of your cycle.
good luck with everything i'm sure you'll be fine but it's all very confusing when your only just finding out your pregnant...and the cramping like pains are just your womb expanding for the baby which is scary when you don't know what's happening but again absolutely normal...
Congratulations

I had a scan at 9 weeks with the same answer, unfortunately mine resulted in a mis-carriage. They called it a blighted ovum - a fertilised egg which stopped dividing and so no baby. If this is what they suspect they should have told you. Go and see your GP you need to know! Age makes no difference to what happens or how you will feel. At nine week to look for a heartbeat they had to use a vaginal ultra sound probe as they said a normal scan was not effective. Go and ask please! I had a scan with another pregnancy which showed no heartbeat or baby just a sac at around 6wks - I now have a strapping 5 year old boy!!! I wish you all the best and good luck in 10days. Thinking of you.xx

You probably conceived around 24-27th September.
It's very early to find a foetus. Even harder to detect a heartbeat of something so very tiny. In a few days when you go back the foetus will have grown to a size that the heartbeat has a better chance of being seen. Look at the screen yourself and you will see how grainy the image is.
If the heartbeat isn't seen later (maybe later than 10 days!), then the foetus is unviable. This means that there were problems with it that mean it would never have developed into a baby. It is a natural protection mechanism.
Meanwhile give your baby the best chance you can by not smoking or drinking alcohol AT ALL.
Best of luck.

Hi, I was less then 6 weeks along when I found out i was pregnant and there was no heartbeat yet but you could see the sak and such. I know its scary not knowing if theres a heartbeat but honestly thats why in some states they dont consider the fetus a baby till more like 12 weeks. Good luck at the doctors.

As far as i know the babys heart starts beating at about 7 weeks. i had an internal scan at 10 weeks because they thought my daughter might be eptopic (luckily she wasnt) and the heart was beating then and clearly visable.
Baby could have been laying in the wrong position to get the heart beat or you could have your dates wrong. when i had my daughter she was actually at 38 weeks not 39 like the hospital said originally so it could be soemthing like that.
Unfortunately it could also mean that your featus is not alive. It could be that it didnt form properly to begin with and so the heart has never taken a beat.
I should think that because they have asked you to go back in that they believe that you are earlier in your pregnancy than u think

hun i so sorry to hear this this has happened to me 5 times and the 1st was exactly the same as your story (im not trying to worry or upset you but i dont want to give you false hopes as there is nothing worse) The heartbeat can be seen usually from 6 weeks but the chances are they are going to re scan you to make sure you have the correct dates
everything might be ok but you may have your dates wrong resulting in a small baby and no heartbeart.
i now have a 6 month old daughter and she is gorgeous and doing very well.
if the worst has happened all i can send is my love and hugs and it will get easier. but dont dwell on it as i blamed myself for a very longt time and then realised i would rather have an angel in heaven than a baby on earth in pain.
best wishes.thinking of you.xxx

according to the dates you have given you would be almost 9 weeks pregnant(8 WEEKS AND 5 DAYS)you do it by the first day of your last period.you dont normally have your first scan untill 12 weeks as it is quite hard to detect, this is what could of happened in your case. as you have had no bleeding this is a good sign your baby is ok,as for the period pains,,my wife had them all the way through her pregnancys(4) but it could mean that something is not alright. my advice is to take it easy, dont worry yourself untill there is something to worry about......good luck with your scan and i hope evrything is ok. try not to worry

Your baby's heart won't begin to beat until the 5th week. It isn't detected until later. Start taking care of yourself and your baby now. You can keep up with the developmental stages by searching the web for sites on fetal development.
