I just bought my daughter a used SUV, everything is great about it except the carpet and upholstery, what does everyone like to use to clean their vehicles?

turtle wax makes an awesome upholstery cleaner, i think its called power out. it comes in a spray can but also has a plastic brush attached to the spray nozzle. I work in a shop and frequently get upholstery dirty or greasy, this stuff takes it out and makes it look like new.

Vacuum first. Use a house vacuum cleaner, the 12 Volt ones sold for cars could not take the skin off a rice pudding.

Car carpet is a lot tougher than house carpet. If you can remove it, hose it with the garden hose, use plenty of pressure. Put a little detergent on - hair shampoo is OK and brush it with a soft broom or banister brush for more awkward pieces. Rinse with hose and dry in the sun. I did this with carpet from a Mercedes-Benz. It came up like new and did not shrink or fade. This also reduces or removes odours.

Vacuum the area under the carpet while it's out. Remove the spare wheel, wash or vacuum the well under it, if it is stored inside the body. Make sure it's dry before you replace the wheel.

Cloth upholstery is more difficult to handle and is best done with a proprietary product from an auto store or dealer. Vacuum first. Leather, use a dealer or saddler supplied saddle soap according to instructions. Vinyl, use damp rags and ordinary liquid detergent. Grease stains can be removed from vinyl with spray-on laundry stain and spot remover. If the grease has been there a long time the stain will fade but you will probably never quite get rid of it. You can scrub vinyl with a toothbrush or nail brush.

Vacuum the dashboard with a brush attachment. Wipe over the dashboard with a damp rag. Dust out crevices with a paintbrush. You can brighten things up with Armor-All or a similar product but don't get it on the inside of the windows or windscreen. You can use it on vinyl seats but it makes them slippery. It is good on all vinyl and interior painted surfaces.

dirt on Vinyl...and cloth upholstery use a nylon scrubbing pad with very little water and soap suds scrub and wipe with a towel . don't soak the seat repeat doing small sections at a time no more than a few inches square.
Carpet vacuum well then with a hard brush dry scrub the floors lifting all the grainy sand and vegetation fragments ,, bang on the floor with the brush and vacuum any dirty Marks can be then scrubbed like the seats were but the less water you use the less chance you have of staining it .

Run over it with a vacuum. Next use simple green or mean green and spray the affected areas. Use a scrub brush and scrub for a little while. Finally wipe dry with a household towel.
