Can anybody recommend a reputable child sponsorship? I was looking into this as a Christmas present for a member of my family but there are hundreds on the internet and I'm finding it hard to get any sort of verification as to how reputable they are.

Does anyone do this already? If so who with and do you actually receive regular updates? Thanks!

The "Maddonary" aspect of the process bothered me too. It's just that ever since we've had a child of our own the ads hit a bit closer to home. Have also worried about admin fees.....

Please keep your money in your own home town. Most of those that you see on TV only give a percentage of your money to some child somewhere. Something like 40%. I guarantee there is a hungry child right in your own neighborhood. Talk to a local Christian Church and they can help you "adopt" someone close to home.

I think it's wrong to try and force your child to believe exactly as you do, especially once the child is old enough to consider religious issues for themselves. At the same time, there are no laws preventing your parents from taking away your things if you don't join their religion. What I think you should do tell your parents you'll make a deal with them. Here's the deal: You'll read the Bible and listen to their religious lectures with an open mind for three months. When you're done with that, if you still are agnostic and don't want to be a Christian, then they have to respect your decision. Your parents will get what they want (you making an honest attempt to lean Christianity) and you'll get what you want (they'll stop bothering you). That way, they will know that you're not just rebelling against them and hopefully they'll understand that you're old enough to make your own decisions. Good luck.

we have local children's homes here in the area and we adopt a child at Christmas through a toy run put on by the motorcycle riders in our town.

we don't give money, i'd be afraid it would not go to the child.

Any child sponsorship, is a sick joke.
90% of money goes on admin.
Please choose a different gift.
sponsoring a child, as a gift, is a bit madonnary, and tacky, let alone a rip off.
Dont go there.

Save the Children is an excellent charity in which you can sponsor a child:
