It's actually a good idea for you to keep nursing right through your illness. Baby has already been exposed to whatever you have BEFORE you even show symptoms. By breastfeeding, you are giving baby immunities to whatever illness you have so that she either won't get sick or won't get it as bad as you do.

Try to keep yourself hydrated.

Don't kiss her hands and face a lot while you are ill. Wash your hands a lot.

Check with the hospital where you gave birth. They usually have lactation consultants that can advise what type of over the counter medication are safe. Maybe even your pediatrician. When I gave birth I was told most over the counter medications are surprisingly safe. Your baby cannot catch your bug through breastfeeding, just normal germs in the air. Get well soon!

Keep breastfeeding! It actually passes on the antibodies to the baby to help prevent her from getting sick, or if she does get sick she won't get quite as sick as she would have without your milk.

What I like to do when I'm sick with a little baby is just get everything you need right at the bed and spend all day in bed. Baby is right there and you can nurse on demand, and you can still take care of yourself and get lots of rest.

go ahead and nurse her, it is better for both of you. She will get your antibodies, and will be less likely to catch it from you. Keep hydrated, wash your hands frequently, try not to get in her face often, and get as much rest as you can.

Talk to your doctor, or your baby's doctor about what you can take, and if you can still breastfeed.
