I got a offer to work with this one orgization. One of my friend started it five years ago and have some success, however she tried to bring it up to the next level. She's trying to make it well known around world. Unfortunately her health is starting to decline, so she passed it onto this one guy that has been working with her whole those years.

I don't really know this guy very well, but he offer me to be a part of it. He says that there won't be any profit for a while but he say there will be a lot of traveling around the world and meeting people. He says if things go well, we'll be able to travel and do a lot of things. If it continue to goes well, we'll make some profit.

I like to travel and I really like the organization idea. However I'm sorta of puzzled by my friend handing it over to this guy. This guy is known for refusing to try take care of complaints from former members or other organization. He basicallly tell them to get lost and move on to do what the orgization

need to get done. For example there was one small orgization that was mad about the deals that doesn't go through. He never fix the problem, he simply tell them that it's their problem, not his and that he's not there to make everyone happy.

He's extremely suspicous of pretty much everybody. He usually won't make any deal or agreement unless he have a serious upper hand or see a loophole on other side. He have basically thrown lot of people out for various reasons. However he hardly kick anyone he bring in out.

He already have a couple reserves for members to go to Europe this summer for a international meeting. So I have a feeling he's serious about this.

He also have a lot of friends oversea and can speak few lanaguages. On other hand, he's only twenty two years old and still in college.

So I really question his age and experience when it come to this. On other hand the offer sound pretty fun if it goes well. Should I take it up? Or am I asking for trouble?

To answer third questions, the orgization raised moneys from sponsors, charity, and a couple contract deals.

but I'll ask him about source of where all moneys are coming from though.

He never ask for moneys though. He doesn't seems to own anything out of ordinary guys of his age. He already say if everything goes well, he'll get a ticket for me at no charge. I checked the international meeting and there's a couple info on internet and this orgization name is on the list.

This is not what you need for success.

You've already mentioned you're aware this "new guy" isn't proactive or responsive. Why would you want to associate with someone who is a user and a taker? Guaranteed, he will do the same to you.

You don't anywhere mention how you would fund all this "traveling" and potential income. I see alot of ifs and they don't make the mortgage payment.

Sit down and make a list - just a simple pro and con list of what you know. Then make a similar list of what you don't know about this "offer".

Listen to your instinct.

Even the traveling part seems scary..You could get flown off somewhere and not flown back again, know what I mean?

Do you have to pay up front for this? Remember, jobs make you money, you don't pay out and maybe lose. That is not a gain.

Sometimes 2 or more people will pull off a scam together.

One is used to break the ice and make friends.

Sorry to have to tell you this friend may not be...a friend.

These would be my deciding factors:
~Ask your friend how she handled complaints when she was there and see if you can do it that way.
~What was his position when she was there, did he have nothing to do with complains then too?
~Is your friends health going to get better or is it unknown? If it's going to get better, is she planning to come back and take her position back?
~Does she have any power left in this organization?
~Was this guy given his position permanently?
~Clearly customer service skills is one of his weakness. Find out if he would be willing to allow you to take control of that area (complaints) and allow you the freedom to do so (maybe it's one of your strengths).

~You could also express your concern about the lack of attention to customer service/complaint/concern areas and without better attention given to those areas, you would not feel comfortable taking the position, although you would love to work for the organization, because it gambles the security of the organization and the security of your livelihood if you were to take it. You would gladly accept the position if this area is given more attention. After reading your additional comments, I would have a serious talk with your friend and ask her about him, his character, weaknesses and strengths, is he an ego tripper? If this is what she built up.....does she know that he operates this way? Maybe have a talk with him and ask him where he stands on this department, even though you feel you already know, he may give you a reason that makes sense but may not realize that he's burning bridges. Just make sure to remain neutral in the conversation and instead of saying, "but that will only bring trouble" you could say, "I understand your position, however, I am concerned that it may be received negatively." Maybe she could have a serious talk with him face to face. You might need to use some psychology on this guy to get the answers you need in order to find out if this will benefit you or not. She might be able to have a strong influence on him and allow your position the control to handle the customer service department, while still keeping in tact the concerns of his (loop holes). Try to find out if this is all about ego because if it is, it sounds like he might drive this organization into the ground. He might be a good guy and means well just extremely paranoid due to the position of the power and fear of failure and not realize he may be creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. But even if he does, you might still consider taking the position, only if expenses are paid up front and never out of your pocket and your income check is paid on time, because you are very likely to meet several contacts which you may end up accepting a position within their organization.

I agree with Da Bomb. Look up the organization AND his name in the Better Business Bureau and find out if there have been any law suits in Superior Court. This is also a way to find out about one's character; for example you might find several "collection" law suits and he was the defendant or maybe "restraining orders" placed against him. To find out info on Superior Courts, you'd have to go to each county to do so. If you want that info, I can probably find some links, just email me. Lots of courts can be accessed on-line, but not all.
