Assuming that it's the extremely common 5c dark blue-gray Washington stamp, it's worth 5c towards the cost of postage if it is unused and less than that if used. BUT there are other 5c stamps with Washington on them, so it's hard to be sure without more information.

The stamp I am referring to was in use 1962-66 and has "5c" in the lower left corner. Starting under the "c" (which is smaller than the "5" and even with the top of the "5") is the notation "U.S. POSTAGE." There is an irregular dark area around the portrait and a single-line frame.

If it does NOT look like the stamp I just described, please tell us more about it so we can have a chance to ID it.

if there is nothing blocking his face, it was most likely not a canceled stamp. believe it or not, cancelation is where the value lies in most stamps. especially if it was canceled in an area that no longer handles US Mail. if it's uncanceled, there is a good chance it's from a mass produced set designed to get children to collect stamps.
