You know I have often answered this question in my mind and thought how can Americans see what was happening in the Iran-Contra affair and not just gasp at the implications that were easily drawn from it as it came out. Watergate was a silly, doeflly stupid blunder of cops and robbers played out by wannabees yet it toppled a government and put the first unelected American President (Gerald Ford) into office. On the other hand the Iran-Contra Affair was a well conceived, devious attempt to forstall the will of the American people whose representatives had voted to stop funding the Contra cause. They felt so sure that they were right, that the conspiritors skirted around the law and did what they wanted too. Apply that to any other situation and see where it goes too. The Clinton thing was a set up from the power of the Congress. Warren G harding who died in office in 1921 was caught in one of the closets of the the White House by his wife "pounding" his secratary Nothing was ever said to the press and she was surely not prosecuted. I mean what is the basis for "High crimes and misdomeanors." in that personal, private, consenting act? Ken Star spent $74 million dollars of our money prosecuting that case and found virtually nothing. now look at the progess of the mischief of the republicans from bumbling thieves to cunning conspiritors. why because they Republicans realized they needed to get work smarter not harder. So they created Republican "think tanks" which made their little mischief so much more effective as the last 40 years has gone by. Ben Franklin, Washington and Jefferson warned us not to be afraid of the outside enemies but be very afraid of the enemies from within. Learn history or relive it.

The big difference here is that Reagan was not entirely aware of what was happening in the Iran Contra affair. When he said "I do not recall" the general consensus is that he truly did not recall. He may have been in the first stages of his alzheimer's disease.
On the other hand, Clinton intentionally lied . To everyone. The courts, his wife, and the American people.
In April, 1999, about two months after being acquitted by the Senate, Clinton was cited by Federal District Judge Susan Webber Wright for civil contempt of court for his "willful failure" to obey her repeated orders to testify truthfully in the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit. For this citation, Clinton was assessed a $90,000 fine, and the matter was referred to the Arkansas Supreme Court to see if disciplinary action would be appropriate[7].
Regarding Clinton's January 17, 1998 deposition where he was placed under oath, the judge wrote:
"Simply put, the president's deposition testimony regarding whether he had ever been alone with Ms. (Monica) Lewinsky was intentionally false and his statements regarding whether he had ever engaged in sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky likewise were intentionally false . . ." [8]
In January 2001, on the day before leaving office, Clinton agreed to a five year suspension of his Arkansas law license as part of an agreement with the independent counsel to end the investigation. Based on this suspension, Clinton was also automatically suspended from the United States Supreme Court bar, from which he chose to resign [9].

I could care less about the Lewinsky (spelling?) thing. What any president does in his private life is none of my business. The Iran Contra episode was very complex and not all Reagen's fault. But if I had to pick from the two, definitely contra.

Iran Contra,, lying to your country is treason,, lying about your fidelity should be between a man and his wife, or a wife and her husband. Ask any married man if he is cheating on his wife, how many will say, yes, sure,,, the real scandal was that the Republican party wanted salacious details about Clinton's tryst publicized for America's children to read and hear about in the media,,,

Do you remember North's secretary, Fawn Hall, saying how she shredded documents for two days after getting a heads up from Meese? Destroying evidence? That is a far worse offense than perjury about a private and personally embarrassing character flaw.

Ok lets see the contra affair was to aid the forces against communism(now defunked by Reagan)which he asked a Democratic congress and house for and they refused because they're agenda(democrats) were being lobbied in both the house and the senate, the other was a person with no regard for his office or responsibilities so I'll pick Clinton..hey but glad you remembered some of the history, just wish you wouldv'e dug deeper and opened your eyes

You are mixing apples and oranges. Other than a scandal the events are night and day. Why not ask the same about the Watergate, the Evangelical leader, Haggard, Foley, Delay, Abramoff?
