LOL well that was an open question, dont you think? The republican's telling you the republicans are good and the democrats telling you the democrats are good. Are you more confused now? lmao. Truth is it's nothing more than opposing titles!!! They needed a fancier way to start the "match" befrore the fighters came out LOL!!! You have the dems and republican's who say " I'm 100% rep/dem and I'll vote for that party no matter if their right or wrong. Those are the people you should be weary of, but then again why would it matter ? How many people elected into office with all their promises ACTUALLY keep their promises? Sure they hit the easiest issues making you at first think their doing what you elected them to do but............ But yeah you get the seldom few who actually ARE for the people and in no way does Dem or Rep have anything to do with that. I think it's more whats really in their hearts, hell they know going in if their doing it for the title or the people. Good luck to ya , hope this helped a little.

Valley R is pretty close about the republicans, cut taxes, yep Bush did that, then started 2 wars. That certainly took care of any way of paying down the deficit. Smaller government yep Bush promised that, hmmmm that didn't happen, now we have added homeland security. On top of all the other national security agencies we have.
In fact Clinton did way more to shrink the government than Bush has. He also forced the republicans to balance the budget. Remember when he shutdown the government and forced congress to slash the pork out of the budget to get it balanced?? Course when the country ended up with a surplus the republicans took credit for it. Oh yeah, Clinton was supporting a war then too, taking out a dictator in eastern Europe. Course he did that with NATO. He didn't go against advise from most of the rest of the world.
Oh yes, with lower taxes we have more money to take care of our own needs. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to help themselves. But republicans are not interested in helping you, or your neighbor, or anyone else that is not able to help themselves. Republicans only help those who are healthy and wealthy. Much easier they have less needs.
Yes the democrates do have a social conscience if someone is less fortunate they do want to help. Yes they would like the rich to pay the same percentage of taxes the the rest of us do.

Democrats are more concerned with the "greater good", of the American society as a whole. This is one of the reasons they usually get painted as "tax and spend liberals" by the Republicans. The social programs that Democrats have instituted such as Social Security and other federal assistance programs, require money, (in the form of taxes) from those who "have" to support those who "have not".
Republicans, on the other hand, are more concerned with smaller government (as in fewer social services) which requires less tax money...allowing the individual to keep more of his or her income and promoting an, "every-man-for-himself" society. This is why the term, "conservative" is often attached to Republicans. The current president and Congress however, are anything but phiscally conservative, in that they are spending millions of taxpayers dollars per hour in the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Unfortunately for both ideologies, big business has influenced and corrupted these concepts with money for favors. In modern times, corporations and big business more or less write the laws that Congress votes on...e.g. the recent change in bankruptcy laws and the upcoming change in a free Internet, in return for donations via lobbyists for their re-election, vacations, etc. They can also influence Congress by pressuring them to not change things, such as, reform health care and prescription medicine so that their profits continue to grow.
The recent scandals involving many Republican lawmakers and lobbyist Jack Abramoff, are an example of this, but lobbying Congress has corrupted the Democrats in the past as well.
With last week's election replacing the Republican majority with Democrats, and Nancy Pelosi's vow to change the current "culture of corruption", America has an opportunity to have a government "by, of, and for the people" once again. Only time will tell if that will happen.

Valley R. summed it up. The republicans want you to do as much for your self as you can. After you do all you can then they will step in & help you. The democrates say dont worry we will take care of every thing for you so you just set tight & let us run your life. We dont care if you produce anything because we will just take what we need from those who do & give it to YOU.That is the differance.

Ok let's see. The Republicans are for smaller govt, less govt spending, (but thanks to the Bush administration, you can tell that's going away.) but like restricting Individual rights because of morality.
The Democrats are for Bigger govt, more govt interference on business (big and small, they just deny they ruin small businesses as well.) But believe in more individual rights (but only at a certain extent.)
Hope that helps.
