Stock vs Stock in a straight line there has not been a factory spec'd Camaro that is faster then a factor spec'd Mustang. The 2007 Shelby GT500 is definately faster, as is the 2003 and 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra's.

The 2000-2002 Camaro SS/Trans-Am WS-6 are fast, capable of running 1/4 miles low into the 13's but a stock SVT Cobra with a very good driver is capable of 12.89. That is the fastest stock time I have seen recorded on a SVT Cobra.

Around a race course, again, the Mustang would win. SVT Cobra R was purpose built for racing from Ford and as such, would pretty easily outrun a Camaro around a race track.

So basically in the end. The Mustang is in theory faster, but then again it has been in production longer, is still in production, and didnt have to worry about over shadowing the companies "halo" car.

The only reason the Camaro never rached it true potential from the factory is to protect the sales of the Corvette.

ordinary and straightforward the 00 -02 mustangs might want to easily sit down and spin through a lite rear and by no potential something controling it. as far as engine it wasn't even a 302 it really is a 5.0 liter it replaced right into a 4.6. camarow on the different hand had a device set up to avert spinning and launch the motorcar impressive alongside with extra weight contained in the erear for traction. they'd a 5.7 liter engine a 350. the camaro can make short artwork of the rustang. even the cobras might want to have problems with camaros. yet now the question is mustang and gto or corvette gm once agai rips ford plus has a larger resale value

Faster at what? Road racing, autocross, or drag racing? What class of racing? If stock, the venue will determine which is the fastest car. And even then so much depends on the year of the car and its options. Plain Jane cars with no options are often lighter and thus faster, all things equal. Manual transmissions are faster than automatics and limited slip differentials help too. By the way, they are no longer building Camaros at all.
