Many turtles eat egg shells, including box turtles. Egg shells are also a good source of calcium for many tortoises (although protein should only be a small portion of most tortoise diets).

Babies live off of the yolk that is still attached for many days.

I have only read on one website where someone has fed hardboiled eggs to their boxie...shell and all. Personally I would think this is a dangerous practice...especially after they're cooked. The shell gets hard and brittle and can act like glass as it passes through the digestive tract. Possibly raw egg shells, but not cooked. Stick to known foods. If it's to add calcium in the diet, there are plenty of other methods that are much safer. Rep-cal with NO D3 added is a good one. So is straight calcium with NO additives for humans from the pharmacy. This should come in capsules. Break the capsules apart and take a very small amount...much less than a pinch...and sprinkle it on the salad once a week. You can also dust the crickets, mealworms, superworms, and pinky mice with a calcium dust. Just stay away from the egg shells...:-)
