Be in a play first and see if you like it. Don't pursue a career in acting unless you know what you are getting yourself into.

i hate it when people ask this question like it wont take more than a year...it is a life long commitment with nothing but rejections with a few exceptions stuck in there every once in a while.. get the book ACT NOW! if you are really really interested and commited...heres the jist of it... acting classes, school plays, local theaters, (experience)(this will take a couple years minimum), workshops, resume, SNAPshot(not head shot), agent\talent scout, head shot. that isnt all but that is the jist...like i said it take s a long long time to get there but if you really put your mind to it you can do it....oh and everyday before you go to bed ask your self "what have i done for my acting career" if you cant answer that you need to work harder

Take acting classes for 10 years. Call the community theaters in the city where you live and ask if they teach acting classes, or, know where you can take classes. You can also call the theater department of the universities and ask them for acting school referrals.
