How does anyone claim to know any better? Have you or anyone ever actually been to either place? How do you reconcile the 5,000th version of the afterlife with different, conflicting versions of other religions? I suppose some believe their religion is the only real, True Religion. Sure. Just like all the others do too. Consider the following:

Fact: the human race has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

Fact: the concepts of an afterlife, of gods, spirits, etc. have only been around for a few millenia.

Fact: these concepts were invented and promulgated by ignorant barbarians as an attempt to explain the world around them, before there was a such thing as science or epistemology.

Fact: the 5,000 religions are only a couple millenia old,

Fact: most of the books of the bible were written by people who were never there, as second- or third-hand accounts decades or even centuries after the events they claim to tell about.

Fact: the books of the bible have been heavily edited over the centuries, with passages or even whole books being re-written or omitted to fit the theological and political climates of the time.

Fact: the books of the bible have also been subject to extensive errors, misinterpretations, and differences of opinion in interpretation as they are translated from one language to another and from that to yet another language.

Knowing all this, how can ANY religion be viewed as anything BUT the invention of men? I know this may not be what you or any believer want to hear, and I doubt I'll do much harm to your faith; faith is remarkably impervious to reason.

Yes, I do. First, the human race's search for meaning beyond itself and this life is a possible indicator of life after death. Personally, I believe that we are destined for one of two existences after death-heaven or hell and that Jesus Christ is the way to heaven. The idea of coming back into a different life form on Earth umpteen times "until you get it right," the belief in reincarnation does not satisfy me because you never know when the "last time" will be. What happens if you don't "get it right", even after a million lifetimes? Besides, the idea of dying a thousand deaths is not appealing.

Neither is the existentialist view that life is actually without meaning or purpose and that you have to create your purpose before you cease to function and the memory of your existence begins to fade in time, some times shorter than others. This leads to my question: if life is actually meaningless, why would anything that I could come up with for a personal life meaning and purpose be anything more than a cosmic joke? Just as I stated in the beginning, the fact that we humans even have concepts of something beyond ourselves and the quest for meaning on whatever level is an indicator that there has to be life after death.

Besides, there have been numerous testimonies from different religious and non-religious backgrounds of life after death experiences.

I don' know, but there are other dimensions that things come out of. Things that are reefer ed to as, Ghosts,Spirits ,Angels,UFOs etc. Almost every one in our family has seen our sister, at one time or another.(after her death) Our father,(lead designer of the first space shuttle, and was the only lead designer for the shape and operating capabilities of the "Stealth") went to bed one night, and after about an hour or so,came running into the famileyroom as white as a ghost, saying the house was on fire. He looked very puzzled because there wasn't any smoke anywhere else.We went back into the bed room, and he picked up his alarm clock, looking really puzzled than, and said his room had filled with smoke so thick he almost couldn't find his way to the door.He again looked at the alarm,And said the smoke had come from the back of the clock? Dad just sat down on the bed, shaking his head, and saying,"I don't believe it". After that,he believed us when we would tell him we had seen our sister Donna.Than there was the time my two older sisters, my brother and myself ,had a flying saucer hover over our heads. And when I went to see King Tut, there where little flying saucers in most of their art.Where did those come from? No one can convince me they were something different, and how about all of the gods they saw? Like I said, I'm not sure of having another life after you are dead, but all those other dimensions?

No, i don't think so. I KNOW SO. There is physical proof that God exists, and so must life after death. Read the Bible, especially the last few books along with Acts, and it will explain everything. I say to everyone here: DO NOT BLOW JESUS OFF! IF YOU BELIEVE IN UR HEART AND CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH HE IS LORD, YOU SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Do not take the chance of burning in hell for all of eternity, for after a million years of the worst pain in all the universe, you won't even be one billionth into it. Think about it. <3

IT CAN BE PROVEN THAT IT WOULD BE ABSURD IF LIFE ENDED WITH THIS MATERIAL WORLD.
SUPPOSE YOU ASK A CHILD THAT IS STILL IN THE WOMB OF HIS MOTHER IF HE THINKS THAT THERE IS LIFE BEYOND THE WOMB-WORLD WHERE HE LIVES. ( THE WOMB IS A WORLD TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM THIS PHYSICAL WORLD AND IS AT THE SAME TIME INSIDE THIS WORLD BUT SEPARATED BY A FEW INCHES! )
HE WOULD HAVE NO IDEA.
SUPPOSE AGAIN THAT YOU TOLD HIM ABOUT THIS WORLD AND DESCRIBED IT IN DETAIL TO HIM. ALL THE WONDERFUL TOYS THAT ARE WAITING FOR HIM. ALL THE LOVE AND AFFECTION THAT HE WILL RECEIVE FROM HIS MOTHER AND FATHER. ALL THE FRIENDS THAT HE WILL HAVE AND ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS THAT HE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WITH HIS EYES, THE PERFUME OF THE FLOWERS, THE DELICIOUS FRUITS THAT HE WILL EAT ETC..
WHAT WOULD BE THE ONLY RESULT THAT YOU WOULD GET FROM TELLING HIM ALL THAT IN THE IMPROBABLE CASE THAT HE DID UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.
WELL HIS ONLY WISH WILL BE TO LEAVE THE WOMB-WORLD AND COME TO THIS MATERIAL WORLD AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO US IN THIS WORLD. IF WE KNEW WHAT IS WAITING FOR US IN THE SPIRITUAL WORLDS WE WOULD ALL KILL OURSELVES TO GET THERE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

hate to break it to you...there's no life after death. We're biological beings who just happened to have evolved to a state where we can think about death and how scary it is...so we came up with god and after life.
Think about it: how much stuff could you possibly have to do a few thousand years ago? No television, cell phones etc...
You spend your time coming up with useless crap.

who can tell, i haven't been there yet, hopefully you haven't,
it is only what you believe, and how you accept your fate.
it could be that you are reincarnated or become an angel, who is to say it is up to what you believe in and where your final destiny is to be. just to be sure always leave something that people can talk about you for the ages, or do something that will always be remembered, then at least your name will never die.
