How do sayings, like "How do ya like them apples?" come out?

Or like "what's crakalacin?" or something? if you know, who started making sayings like that?

some of these sayings start out from exactly what it says. somebody was probably eating an apple and it was either really tasteful or really disgusting and somebody was probably witnessing and made the comment "how do u like them apples?"
