Yes. I did this back in 1999. My cousin made it happen for my mom for Christmas-it was done right around my birthday. It was in Port Jarvis, NY, early morning. It was fun. I have a certificate to prove it. The most scenic places is probably where the airports, (smaller ones) have able room. Port Jervis or New Mexico are scenic places to start. I don't know about any others.

I'm very lucky I drive them for a living,
What I will offer, as I have flown the things over London,Melborne and now on the edge of the Drakenberg in South Africa is...
The experience sometimes is as big if not bigger than the surrounds.
Very often the people on board with you make all the difference.
I know its bad news and I should'nt do it but the people that ask smart questions and seem really enthralled often then get a longer ride!! Conditions permitting.
Its a real joy for the pilot to be able to share something he loves with someone else who is obviously entusiastic.
What is the summary of all that, fly wherever and whenever you can. ;-)
Little tip here, balloon clubs around the world always need people to help inflate and chase balloons. Do that a couple of times and you might even get a free ride. Google hard for clubs in your area.
Cheers
Gary

First of all, the sentence should read :
Have you ever ridden in a hot air balloon?
The answer is yes. I've flown in the city and in the country. Both are equally as nice. For complete peace and quiet, I encourage you to fly over a forest, occasionally touching the treetops. You'll have a wonderful time.

I was given a Balloon flight for my 30th birthday. It took off from the South bank of the River Thames right next to Tower Bridge. We had to be airborne at the crack of dawn to get out of the Heathrow flightpath and so I got to see the panoramic view of London with the sun just coming up.
As we crossed the river, we flew right over the Tower of London and from there we could see The Millennium Wheel, Houses of Parliament and The Millennium Dome amongst others.I could see for a good 10 miles+ all round. Amazing.
I found out after we'd landed that this was to be the last London based balloon flight. I recently found out they have been given a licence to continue so I'll be looking forward to my next flight sometime soon.
