I'd say let the original plan that Juliet and the Priest had in the first place follow through, without Juliet actually dying. When she wakes up they kiss, and the the two families come looking for Romeo and realize Juliet is alive and it makes them appreciate the gifts they already had and they realize that theuir quarrleling was'nt right, and learned their lesson and have resolved their issues...then they all live happily ever after...perhaps a lesson to show love. I hope I made sense here!

I saw a thing for kids the other day. It was about Rosalind Franklin. I guess the idea was to be " feminist ", or artificially inflate young girls self esteem. It was a base canard. The lie attacked two great scientist by calling them thieves and saying that Rosalind Franklin was the discoverer of DNA structure. WE know she had a part to play, but not the whole part. The relativistic changing of the ending of Romeo and Juliet smacks of this type of thing. If they are too young for the play, then make the picture book suitable for children with another play. Do not alter the plays of William Shakespeare. If this was a living authors work you may find yourself in legal trouble for violating a copyright.

lol You probably should let them live. Don't want to scare the kids and besides I've read very few children's book's where the main characters died. What you could do is say that Romeo was from a seperate kingdom who was jealous of Juliets kingdom and there was a wood that seperated the two. One day they were both walking in the forests after becoming lost and found each other. You get the point. As long as no one dies, it has a happy ending, and the familys hate each other for a childish reason, it is a children's book.
Hope this helps. :)

No! Do not let them live! That was one of the things I really hated about Disney growing up--they would change the endings to good stories to make them happy for kids! (I was very well read for a kid and I generally knew when Disney changed the ending of a story.) Keep the ending the same, just use it to tell a moral: Although love is important, it is more important to be honest with yourselves and your loved ones.

Let them live, like some versions of Little Red Riding Hood does with Grandma getting locked in the closet instead of eaten by the wolf.
One class I saw was really clever having the boys create a diary for Romeo and the girls, one for Juliette. They were so cool. One kid had a letter from Juliettaa's mother warning her to stay away from that boy!, which she crumpled up as if Juliett had been mad and threw it out. They changed their writing to pretend to be other characters offering advice, like Dear Abby to R and J.
Some kids had pieces of cloth from the fabric of their "loved" one and one kid had some rose pettels, feathers all kinds of things that were suppose to be keepsakes taped into a diary

Make them live, but have them going on the Maury Povich show so that Romeo can have a paternity test to prove that he's not the father and Juliet is a whore.

Just stop at the point where he finds Juliet and don't say that she appears deads. Leave it up in the air for them to draw their own conclusion.
