No - any instrument is appropriate for anybody who wants to play - there was a sort of cliche in the late 70's of lots of "New-Wave" bands having a female bass player - Talking Heads, Pixies and Sonic Youth were probably the most successful examples - so it's certainly not unknown, and if you want to play the bass, by all means play the bass - I for one look forward to hearing from you.
