I have a lot of used cd roms that are not re-writable. The information on them is outdated and I want to dispose of them. Is there a way to erase them? I don't want to put them in the trash because of personal information on them. So how can I dispose of them? Thanks for help.

Circuit City and Best Buy have machines that will shred CDs. I am not sure, but Staples may have them also. I don't know how much these shredders cost. You may try to burn them in a trash pile or use a cigarette lighter to destroy the information on them. You could also try scratching them with a knife or other instrument so they cannot be read, but that would be time-consuming. IMHO, your best bet would be to get a CD shredder if you can afford it. That way, you just stick one CD in after another and it is much faster. Good luck.

I used to put very deep scratches on the information side of the CD and then snap them in half, all to be doubly sure that they couldn't be read.

if your really worried then you could submit them to a confidential waste disposal service operator if you wanted

I just use a pair of scissors and cut the CD.
