In my humble opinion there is no, one better processor. You will find many passionate answers concerning your question. However, the bottom line is, it depends on what you do. Intel is not the number one processor company in the world because it is a piece of crap and McIntosh Apple did not join the Intel ban wagon for no reason. I have owned many computers with Intel processors that where as stable as the rock of Gibraltar. On the other hand, AMD has made some very impressive advances that startled the home computer world including Intel. AMD was the first to release the 64 bit processor and nothing on the market was faster at the time of its release. My experience has shown that Intel processors tend to be slightly more stable. However, AMD processors are very fast and if you are a gamer there is not a better or faster processor to own than a lighting fast dual core 64 bit AMD processor. In fact my gaming computer rig has a 64 bit AMD processor and to this day it is still the fastest home computer I have ever used. I know this does not answer your question directly but I hope I helped.

Intel and AMD are two different companies that manufacture Microprocessor chips that go into desktop PCs.
Currently Intel Core 2 Duo is the best processor for the desktop.
For laptops also Intel Core and Intel Core 2 based processors are best.
AMD used to have performance lead with their Athlon X2 processors on desktop before Intel Core 2 Duo was introduced, but currently AMD has no answer to Intel's new product.

Price, don't let Intel's new chips fool you, they are faster now but the motherboard you need to buy to run that speed will cost you a fortune.
