If you want to play the sims 2 pets on playstation 2, you dont have to have the original sims 2 right?

Pets is an expansion pack. You need to have the base game (The Sims 2) to play any of the exspanion packs.

I am not positive about the editing part of your question because I have Sims 2 for the PC, not PS2. But when I installed Pets, nothing in the editing features changed for me so it probably won't for PS2 either.

I would suggest searching & reading through the BBS forum at the offical site to see if someone has already asked your Sim related questions and got answers.
