Being a non-American myself I have to say that when you start bragging about how you think you're "The Greatest Country on Earth" and everyone loves you and wants to be you and you are the saviours of the world blah blah, thats when it becomes a BAD thing.
Especially when you're starting wars you can't finish and screwing up all over the place. Makes you look a bit silly.
Patriotism is OK for any country, its bombastic arrogance that doesn't go down too well. Sadly, some (not all ) Americans are very good at this.
As for the illegal immigrants and terrorists getting more than the hardworking taxpayer though I can sympathise. Britain is even worse as they are taking advantage of our Welfare State.

I think through the years this country has slowly started to lose it's values and alot to blame is taking the religion out of schools, court houses, or any other place. Kids today don't have the respect and morality I had when I was growing up. I've always been patriotic and always will be. I also taught my children to be that way. You should be proud of your heritage and your country. Do parents today instill that in their children, or are they just too busy?

American identity is in decline now. Bush has helped accelerate that decline in several ways.
What you fail to understand is that the so called illegal "immigrants" are not immigrating
to America
they don't even want to be American.

It's not a bad thing to be a patriotic American.
It is however very wrong to mistake patriotism with submissiveness to elected officials. To call anyone questioning the president and his motives a traitor.

well... I think you cross the line when you blindly support an idea, just because the leader said to support it...
the leader is a representative of a country, so if you don't support it, then you don't support the country and you're unpatriotic...
my biggest problems with issues recently is that there seems to be much more rhetoric than facts flying around... more vague ideas than concrete terms and ideas...
notions of terrorists and islamifacists, but no real names of who or names of places where they are... if you don't know who they are, you can't kill them...

Yes , the Us is not capable of engaging in a conflict to support its own interest and sustaining the resolve required to win. We have surrendered to liberal heresy and are doomed to suffer the fate of a weak and conviction-less nation.
