im a bigger woman as well and the top of my belly got hard as well while my bottom stayed flabby. people will probably begin to notice more around the 6th month and then on. even my belly button has begun to pop out which normally doesnt happen to overweight women. it all depends on the person's body shape and such. best of luck though!

Five months is a difficult time with your first baby because you're just at the point when you're really beginning to feel pregnant, but you don't necessarily look it! Don't let the fact that you are 'big' bother you, in just a month or two you will look just as pregnant as any other woman does..and you will be able to bask in the attention you get then, and after the baby is born. If you want people to realize you are pregnant..a good idea (as others mentioned) is to wear some maternity clothes..it's an obvious sign that you are..and then maybe people will feel more open to comment and ask you about your pregnancy.
It's kind of an unwritten rule that you NEVER ask a woman when she is due or refer to her pregnancy unless you know for certain that she is pregnant...if you are wrong, and they are not pregnant at all you have completely insulted them, and made yourself look like a complete idiot...so..this could be part of the reason that few people seem to think you are pregnant....you're not that far along that it's obvious yet!
The reason the top of your belly is hard is because upwards and outwards are the only directions that your uterus has left to expand in, and it will continue to do so in that way until you give birth. If you have subsequent children the chances are that the hard bump will get a little lower each time...because parts tend to get stretched out over nine months, and it can be extremely tough to get them all back exactly where they were even if you did exercise regularly..it's never truly the same again..
I was about 25lbs overweight when I had my first and I experienced the whole flabby thing on the bottom of my tummy too...the good thing is that it appears to get smaller as you get more pregnant. I also found that I got less stretch marks with my first when I was more overweight then I did with my second..so, being 'bigger' may work to your advantage in that matter.
Hope this helped.

Pregnancy is weird. I weighted about 50lbs less when I got pregnant with my son then I did when I got pregnant with this baby. Stupid depo lol. But this time I started to show pretty much right away. With my son I didn't show until my sixth month. I'm 7 months with my second and refuse to wear maternity clothes..Im much more comfortable in hoodies and well, jeans..but those are maternity. I think sometimes people think I'm fat because I don't wear maternity tops but I don't really care. So if may be that you're at a stage that's in between and it's hard to tell but others may look and think you look pregnant. Sometimes I see skinny people with a pouch or who could go either way as well so it's not just because you're a bigger person. Just relax and enjoy you're pregnancy. You know what's going and on..who cares what a stranger thinks! best of luck! congrats on your pregnancy!

Well, that depends on how big. I can usually tell (not always) when a large woman is pregnant because the belly is more round than is usual for big people.

actually it is harder to tell with bigger women. This is my third pregnancy, and like yours my belly is hard on top but on the bottom it is just flabby. But since i wear my maternity clothes everyone just asks me how far along I am. But I guess it is normal, since your not the only one with this problem.

Depends entirley on how you are built. I am 6 months pregnant, started off with a flat tummy and A cups, and you still cannot tell. Everyone carries differently.
