The subjects in the list above are not compulsory nor core subjects in England but I do not know if the situation is similar elsewhere.

yes they should be taught in schools because some parents dont have the time to really teach there children some of those basic skills for example how to manage there money.

Well some of those subjects like How to Cook, How To Swim, First Aid are already offered in many High Schools as electives.

Managing money should definately have a class in high school.

Others such as How to think...well what does that mean?

Morals and ethics no, simply for the fact that it is the parents job to teach such things.

Absolutely YES!!!!
Cooking: eye-hand coordination, math, sequencing, cause and effect, logic and nutrition (healthy eating habits) a possible occupation.

Swim: gross- fine motor skills, exercises (healthy lifestyle), recreation, a skill that presumably will save his life and a possible occupation.

First Aid: How to help ourselves and help others, take care of injuries and conditions, will probably save somebody's life at any given time, keep calm in hectic times, a possible occupation.

How to think: Works logic, brain hemispheres, problem solving, logic thinking, abstract thinking, definitely something people need to do, less likely to do some stupid things. A lifelong skill.

Managing money: Math, economy, budget, intelligent investments, logic, abstract thinking and problem solving, a sure keeper, a possible occupation.

Morals and ethics: These should be taught mostly at home, but given that kids spend more time at school with their teachers than they do with their parents, is a smart move to start doing this at school, that not having it at all. It will do a lot of good to raise children with good values.

Qualities and human nature: Not sure what these mean exactly, but for what I understand has a lot to do with how people work, think, and react. It is definitely important for children to understand that there is a wide diversity, and that we have to learn how to cope with that.

Hope this helps!!!!

All except the last 2 are already being taught in school. I think that those last 2 lessons should be taught in the home by the parents instead of by the teachers in school. Parents are obligated to teach their children more than they learn at school, so they should do their jobs and teach them about morals and ethics and all that's in between and not leave it up to strangers to do it for them.

I think all are great and the majority are, but since when should morals and ethics have to be taught primarily by the teachers? Parents should be the ones teaching these in the home. Unfortunately they aren`t so now this also falls on a teachers shoulders.

How to cook---They do have an elective class called Home Ec.
How to swim--Most schools with pools offer this as part of the required P.E. class.
First Aid----This would be great! especially if CPR was taught as part of it!
How to think---you cant dictate to people how to think.
Managing money--This is also part of Home Ec, and should be part of math.
Morals and ethics--Not everybody's morals are the same. This should be left to the parents. (besides, how would you grade this if your own personal values don't match the teacher's)
Qualities and human nature---save this for the parents.

Depends what age in school on each one of these.

Cooking, they do that in my 5th graders school. Home economics at that age. Wow. My ten year old knows how to cook some stuff already. How cool, but a little young

How to THINK....I should hope they kinda give them input on that.

First AID....That should be required in high school if you ask me. Along with money managing, MORALS and HUMAN NATURE

You bet. Kids today are rude, fresh, not nice, hurtful. It would be nice if they could teach them compassion too!!

Goooooood Question. thanks

Higher order thinking is the goal of every classroom. These subjects seem to fall within those categories. What's the question?

morals and ethics--would be really hard to do in a public school cause everyone has different morals and ethics it would be hard to establish one curriculum for that
