Hello, whenever I turn on the heater in my 1991 Gmc sonoma truck, antifreeze leaks all over the passenger side floor. What can I do to fix this, it happened recently when my friend was driving, he accelerated WAY to fast and this is when it started. Now I can't turn the heat on. Please let me know how much it will cost to fix also, or if this is a big problem.

you might try pelletized Bars Leak, or even block sealer, I've had goodluck with those, although you may loose some flow and heating in your heater :)

verify the overflow bottle and the hose connecting the two. The bottle could be cracked or the hose broken. inspect the radiator, the place the tanks connect the middle, composite tanks some situations loose the seal in this area, ensuing in a slow leak it is problematic to locate. previously you go any farther, or rush right into a keep asking approximately getting head gaskets, ask for a cooling equipment stress verify. many situations certainly one of those will coach the place the leak is. one situation some mechanics love is to have some one order greater upkeep then a automobile desires. So enable a have faith worth mechanic carry out a little diagnostic artwork in this, except you only like changing factors till ultimately you get it fastened. If the homestead windows do not fog up, then this is not the heater center. whilst those fail a mist comes out of the ducts and a candy smell is present day in the compartment. this is not the thermostat as a failure right here won't bring about coolant loss. A failure right here frequently motives engine overheating.

I would say you have a leaking heater core. It is usually under the dash on the passenger side..inside the heater duct work. if it is pouring out it will need replacement, but if just leaking a bit you might try some Bars Leak,,but this is a temporary fix. This CAN be a costly fix not sure how much it could be on a GMC Sonoma.

Well buddy to repair it you have to remove the heater core from under the dash.
It is not easy and depending on where you live will determan how much it will cost.
get a manual from auto-zone and look at how to do it. It is hard but if you take your time and do it slow and easy you can do it. I would call around for a heater core rather then just jumping at the first 1 you find.
Also dont for get to call the rad shops as some times thy have a better price.

If you do decide to replace it yourself, or have a friend do it, here's a tip. Be VERY careful when you put the heater hoses back on the new core. put a little vaseline in them to help them slide on, if they don't go on easily. If you twist too hard, you can crack the solder joints on the new heater core tubes, & then it will leak. I had mine all put back together, & had to do the whole thing over because of this.

Yep , heater core - now, here's the thing though. Though it may sound complicated and scary to fix , you can probably do it. The actual part itself isn't going to cost a lot , it's when people take it to a shop to do it that costs a lot of money, cause it's the time they charge for getting under the dash to remove all the stuff to get to it. I did one before , and all it cost me was the time it took to do it and $22.00 for the new core, at a shop you're looking at a LOT more money..

It sounds like the heater core has a hole in it... the only way to fix the problem the right way is to replace it..

Your heater core is shot. Not a big expense but in some vehicles, it's a pain in the butt to change.
Good Luck
