I should mention my baby dont cry normally and has cried more the last few days then he has total time since he was born. Im not saying hes a perfect baby but he dont cry for more then a few seconds at a time when he does. He also chews on his bottle nipple and spits out the formula.

He also wants to be held all the time even if he sleeps. Only time i can get more then 5 minutes sleep the last few days is by holding him or putting him on my chest.

Yes it is possible, but hopefully it will stop soon.
Soak some wash clothes in either breastmilk or formula and freeze. (Only use formula if you are not breastfeeding, if you do not have a pump you can hand express the milk it is easy and you don't need much) I don't recommend water for a baby this young, even the tiny bit on frozen wash clothes as it can add up pretty quick and excess water is dangerous. If you must use water: boil it first.
I have heard good things about teething pacifiers. Also get some teething rings or blankets/toys with the rubber teething corners. "Pur ice" filled teethers are good, as are unopened freezies (the kind without sharp edges).
Carefully monitor wet diapers to make sure your baby is eating enough. Painful gums can put them off their food, and 6 weeks is too young to go without enough food even for a day or two. Try giving frozen stuff or gum massages before nursing/feeding.
I wouldn't use any medication for a baby this young. Not even homoeopathic or natropathic medications. If you want to try the hylands teething stuff be sure to get the lactose free ones, no baby needs lactose.
I know it is tough to have a baby that only wants your finger. I had a sucky baby who didn't like pacifiers, but remember this too shall pass. And I would rather comfort my baby than have some thing do it instead.
If you need help and are breastfeeding your local La Leche League leader/meetings can be helpful. Or really any mommy group. A distracted baby is also usually a happier baby, and a happier mommy.
If you haven't had your 6 week appointment yet be sure to mention it when you are there, on the off chance it is something else. Or call a nurse help line if you are concerned.
Best of luck, hopefully it will be over soon (well temporarily. I am afraid we must all face teething at some point)

First of all, it does not sound like colic. Colicy babies are in constant pain due to the misformation of their digestive systems. And if your baby is not a crier normally, sleeps well and very content, colic is highly unlikely.
It certainly sounds like teething. My son began teething very early too, but his teeth didn't actually start to show through until 4 months. Try a teething ring. Also, watch out for a fever and slight teething rashes (either on his bum or his face).
It is also possible he is seeking comfort. Babies explore the world with their mouths - and this is also where they find comfort.
Despite what some people say, give your baby a pacifier. It is a natural urge to suckle when they are this young (and obviously if they ate all the time, they would get sick). A pacifier allows them the comfort of suckling, and gives your finger a rest. The pacifier will also help if he is teething - it keeps his gums busy without the hazard of chewing on a towel or facecloth (little bits of material getting stuck in his throat).
Best of luck.

I have a 2 month old. We went for his checkup and shots yesterday. I asked his pediatrician the same question, for the same reasons. He said while it is uncommon its not impossible at this age. He said he may do this for the next 2 months before the tooth actually breaks through, or he may have a couple teeth by the next visit. Every baby is different. I bought him a teething blanket. Munchkin is the brand. I dont know if its helping or not, but he likes to gnaw on it. And he can hold onto it better than he can a teether.

i doubt he's teething... more than likely he has colic... and the finger in the mouth trick is a diversion from the gas pains.. either that or he wants to suck... babies suck all the time... have you tried giving him a pacifier?

Yes it is quite possible. Our little guy was teething at that age.. mind you his teeth didn't come in until he was 5 months old.

Its possible. He's not to young for teething.
However he might have colic and sucking on your finger helps calm him, something that is very common for his age.
But, he most certainly might be teething. :)
