I just bought the book "Flags of our Fathers", but I once read part of another book about Iwo Jima and I really liked it, but I can't remember the title or the author. My uncle died there and today is Veteran's Day, which reminded me of this.

Check out "Iwo Jima: Red Blood, Black Sand--Pacific Apocalypse" by Charles W. Tatum.

The best book on the battle for Iwo Jima is "Iwo". It tells the story of both sides of the battle. I read it while I was serving in Special Forces, 30+ years ago, and I couldn't put it down: It's like reading the "Flags of our fathers", and" Letters from Iwo Jima " in one book..totally excellent!.

Good question. If you post your question on the Library of Congress' website at: loc.gov you will probably get all the information on every book ever written about Iwo Jima. Good fortune to you.
