The cheapest way would be probably to do it yourself. Basically you don't really deal with lawyers at all and just do the paperwork yourself. This doesn't always work: if the couple is not willing to work together, or if there is going to be disagreement about child custody a lawyer or counselor might be needed to work out the suitation.
If you feel confident enough to create your own agreement, and are good at following instructions and filling out blank forms, consider using uslegalforms.com in conjunction with your state book. Forms usually run between $25 and $50. DivorceNet's editors have worked with US Legal Forms for over three years and have not received a single complaint.

The cheapest way to get a divorce anywhere, would be an uncontested divorce. If you two agree on everything, just get a lawyer to give you the papers, sign, pay their fee, which shouldn't be very much and done.

the cheapest would be going down to the court and doing it yourself. this way you are charged with only the filing fee. which may be over $300.00 depending on your state fee schedule. this would be for an uncontested divorce with no children, no assets and no debts.
or get yourself a paralegal.
some attorney's will take a payment plan.
