The meaning of love is knowing that you are loved. Someone that sticks by you through thick and thin who would stand up for you no matter what. Love is a maraculas thing and when you find and end up with that somebody that you love with every inch and fiber of your being, you will also find that you would do anything for that person. That is the meaning of love and when you find it. Guard it and embrace it.

Personally I believe that love is a conscious act. What we often mislabel as love is sexual attraction. That intense feeling of wanting to be with someone comes down to hormones. I'm not saying that sexual attraction or infatuation is bad. It's fun and can be the start of a good relationship, but it's not love.
Love is the conscious act of putting the other person's best interests first. A young man trying to get a young woman to submit by saying "If you loved me you would." does not love her, he lusts her. He is putting his own sexual satisfaction above her best interest.
