I skip it sometimes but not always. I have been told this is not normal. I have tried the Windows One Care Scan but i don't have enough RAM for it. Can you please tell me how to free up my RAM or stop this disk check from running?

Many things can cause the disk checker to auto run. To stop it from running follow these instructions:

Go to Start>> Run: Type in: CMD and click OK.
At the resulting prompt, type in: chkntfs /d [Enter]

If you are running Windows XP, it should stop when you let it run. But if you are running Windows 95/98/ME, then you have to troubleshoot your Turn OFF sequence, and see what is preventing a proper shutdown. I would use CONTROL ALT and DELETE to kill each task. Then when they are all gone, pick SHUTDOWN.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

This cancels a scheduled chkdsk
I'd say add more RAM to fix the RAM issue, check out crucial.com to get exactly what you need.

Recalls, maybe can remove it from documents and settings/administrator/start menu/startup.
