None, we had plenty of workforce & not enough jobs.
In the late fifties / early sixties, the wages on London transport was so low, they chose to recruit staff from the Carribean, rather than pay enough to attract locals.The unions were against it. In those days, encouraging immigration was considered right-wing !

The Irish. Worked in the major cities building during the day & watching it get blown up at night.Also worked in the mines.

After the war of course they stayed & the major immigration of the Irish started.Working mainly in construction & NHS.

i heard kashmiris were asked to come to the UK. something like one boy from every household. thats why there are many kashmiri settlers here. i was told this was in 1970 ish. but i know the war was earlier than this. hope this helps!
