after all, if the Republicans who have been in total control of the government for the past 6 year have done nothing wrong then they have nothing hide. right?

isn't that one of the rationals behind the unquestioning acceptance of warentless surveilance on American citizens?

and don't the fiscally responsible Republicans want to know where the 2.04 BILLION DOLLARS A DAY of taxpayers money is going?

Investigations into the past do nothing to keep the country on the correct path to the future... all they do is tie up resources and the media makes it a circus act. Think back to the Clinton / Lewinsky days. Nothing was reported but the scandalous details, while North Korea developed nuclear bombs. Can we really afford to repeat this type of distraction with the pace of changes in the world today? I think not!

That's easy - because they are *crooks*, especially the neo-con variety. Even before there were neo-cons, republicans have always made my skin crawl. They seem to only care about money, and if something can't be measured in dollars their attitude is it simply isn't worth anything. This translates to not giving a damn about the environment or pretty much all social programs.

They shamelessly use people to advance their me-first agenda, the primary victims of such manipulation being conservative christians, who rightly or wrongly but nevertheless sincerely are concerned about the direction society is taking (myself, I'm convinced they've also been duped by their own ministers).

At least for now, until the public inevitably forgets the magnitude of the crimes committed by this regime, Al Franken's comment remains in effect: "Republicans told us that government doesn't work; so we elected them and they proved it."

good point about the rationale for surveillance. Congress is a giant feed trough for special interests and ;potential scandal. Democrats and Republicans regularly get caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Republicans this time have indulged in a feeding frenzy for all kinds of potential scandals. Halliburton in Iraq, has been in control when billions have disappeared with no explanation whatsoever. 9/11, war in Iraq, trillions in debt, defense contracts. As Henry Waxman, the dem. who will be in charge of investigations in the House said, there are so many it will be difficult to pick and choose. That is why the republicans are crying. It is time we held our representatives responsible for their excess. Will we do it? I don't think so yet.

Here's what I tell all the Dems. GO FOR IT investigate all you want, impeach if you can. Call up everyone, dig deep, put people in jail.

But, remember if you really don't find much, how bad will it be for the Dems in two years?

Because it accomplishes nothing.. When in their two day work week will they find time to: sign an immigration bill? Stem-cell bill. etc etc

Investigations are in place of ACTION. After six years of a do nothing congress the last thing we need is another two years of it.

Because when there is an investigation the people who do the investigating go on the national news every night and lie about the findings for political purposes.

Personally they can investigate till the cows come home if they want to. My guess is they will give it up, because they know that what goes around comes around.

the democrats are the same way... they said the same things you just said but when theyre in control they don't give out any information either... the only problem with democrats is that they constintly change their minds and positions and just say what sounds good at the time.... at least republicans have stuck to their issues and if you dont like them you become a democrat but there's 4 different sides to democrats with no focus.
