I do but when I do the server looks shocked and sometimes says they almost never hear please or thank you.

If you don't say either, I'm curious why not?

Thanks to everyone who answered. I gave everyone a thumbs up for answering but I can't choose a "best answer" because they're all good.
I'm going to leave it up to you all to vote :)

btw yes I do say please and thank you to everyone - it's how I was raised - to show respect, including to people in "service" professions.

All right I'll play devil's advocate. No I don't because they're doing their job. Do people say please and thank you to you for doing your job. I don't think so. Then why would you say it to them? Just wanted to stir the pot a little.

BTW I say it all the time.

Absolutely. I say it to the waitress/waiter, the doorman, the taxi driver, etc. It's politeness. And I'd love to see more of it in our society.

ABSOLUTELY, WAITERS AND WAITRESSES DO A HARD JOB AND DONG GET PAID NEARLY WHAT THEY DESERVE.

THEY RARELY GET THE RESPECT FROMTHE CUSTOMERS THAT THAY DESERVE EITHER.

KUDOS TO THE WAITERS AND WAITRESSES OUT THERE!
