The Vampire Squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis, lit. "vampire squid from hell") is a small, deep-sea cirrate cephalopod found throughout the temperate and tropical oceans of the world. Unique retractile sensory filaments justify the Vampire Squid's placement in its own order.

Vampyromorphida (formerly Vampyromorpha), sharing similarities with both squid and octopuses. As a phylogenetic relic it is the only surviving member of its order, first described and mistakenly identified as an octopus in 1903 by German teuthologist Carl Chun.

Yes.
It survives at very high pressures. (That just means that they live VERY deep under water.) And in complete darkness.
They look very weird.
I watched a documentary on them on Discovery Channel. See if you can get the documentary. It's boring really. But since you asked....

Check out the source for the pic of it. Usually, in water, they are a blood red color.
