well the old fashioned doctors will because when i had my first baby, they shaved me (old doctor) but now i think they dont because they used to think that it was for hygenic purposes. my sister just had a baby and they didnt shave her and she has a younger doctor. so some do some dont.

Trust me docs don't care if you are shaved or not and that includes legs and private areas. I have never heard of a hospital requiring that before you give birth. I can see if you have a TON of hair and it is getting in the way of delivering, and they might trim it but shaving is something that they just don't have time for. They are to busy delivering your baby. I would worry about it, but if you want to really know ask your ob/gyn who will deliver your baby what the hospital does and if there are any things that you need to do.

Some do!
When my best friend had a baby she didn't know they'd try to take a razor to her when she arrived ... we had to fight the nurses over it. Finally her obstetrician arrived and told them to forget it. It's supposedly to keep everything more sterile and prevent infection, but I think that's ridiculous. As long as you're clean it should be fine! A lot of hospitals have removed it from their procedures, but if yours still requires it you should probably do it at home. I wouldn't like strangers shaving my privates.
I've never heard of it for a gynecologist visit, though. That sounds a little suspicious ... why would they want you to go through all that? If you're worried they won't be able to see, though, a little trim couldn't hurt. That's all I'd bother doing.

yea know it was weird before my son i had one of the drs at the office tell me that they won't shave me. I didnt know whether that meant to make sure i stay shaved before or if they didn't do that anymore. I shave anyways because I think it's so gross to get your period and have all that hair! I know too much info..sorry but I was shaved for the birth or my son and will be for this pregnancy too. I think about if you need to be cut down there so yo don't tear or what not..probably better to be shaved then not.

I delivered in Altus, OK in 2000-no shave
I delivered in Wichita Falls, Tx in 2003- no shave
I even had episiotomys with both kids and no shave. I think that in the 1950's they (hospital) would do, now a days I don't think that the drs/nurses care. Moral of the store: depends on the dr.

I don't think so, like pregnant woman can see down there anyways lol, you'd have to be a contortionist to do that with a big belly. I know my friend was shaved before a scheduled c-section, but I think that was because she had a catheter put in.

Mine never said anything-- I try to stay "groomed" anyway, just because it makes me insecure to have someone looking down there anyway. Once you get pregnant, most people get too big to get a razor down there anyway. I haven't shaved my legs in 4 weeks, and it certainly isn't for lack of trying.

That's crazy. For c-sections though, they do have to shave the area that they will be cutting into. For my first c-section, they shaved me, but I was prepared for the second one.
