- FLIGHT. Venice Airport "Marco Polo" (it is on mainland; a boat can carry you from Venice) - Rome Airport: it's very short, but Rome Airport is in Fiumicino far from city

- TRAIN. fastest train (ES Eurostar) takes 4h 30' to arrive in Rome main station ("Roma Termini"), located just in DOWNTOWN

I travel often between Rome and Venice and I prefer train (no time lost for checkin or boarding; no need of a trasport between Rome airport and downtown), but, may be, it's my personal preference: may be it's longer, but you are not requested to reserve a seat long before and you can change your mind.

PS: by train you can stop in Florence also (it's halfway from Venice and Rome)

in case you flow to the prepare terminal and capture a prepare from roma-firenze(florence) that is going to take round 1hr 30min and then you'll take firenze-venezia in a good number of cases 3hrs, observe that reckoning on the prepare you're taking it can make 2 stops formerly reaching the most suitable vacation spot so dont get off the prepare. also once you get to venice, in case you plan on taking the water taxi, i wouldnt inevitably purchase the fee ticket because if u use the commonly used public transit device in rome you'll make sure out, no human being will pay. besides the undeniable fact that if u get stuck w/out a bypass that is going to value 30e/human being. venice is so tremendous youll like it there
