The battery life is about 2 years before you have to shell out $100 for a new one.

Depends on how you treat it... if you treat it like crap, it's not going to last long. My husband has an MP3 player (not iPod because they weren't out then) that he's had for about six years! He replaces the batteries on his though..;. iPods have internal batteries so they will eventually die on you. So, if you treat it better than your significant other, you should get about two or three years out of it.... about the length of a decent relationship.
