what do you think? Do you think women receive the same pay as a man in the same occupation?

I am aware, I have been doing research for a presentation ...I just wanted to know what other people thought...you know what really irks me about the lower pay...there was legislation passed decades ago to prevent that.

As you already know the answer I'll just say what I kind of remember. I think the pay for the same job is about 90%. But it varies a lot from field to field. The interesting question is why? Obviously a lot has to do with historical trends as the gap has been going down substantially over time. A lot of time the employers have tended to view male employees as breadwinners and have paid them more because of this. But there has to be more to it then this. Some of the gap is certainly related to woman taking time off to have children. It would be harder to get a promotion if you are in the first week of a three month leave to have a baby then if you were at work wouldn't it?
I think part of the income gap has a lot has to do with motivation and the roles traditionally given to men and women. A person with a spose that is a full time homemaker is certainly more likely to work harder if their job is on the line because of the consequences of him or her being released. Since there are a lot more stay at home mothers than stay at home dads this would sway the average incomes. Also, a woman with children at home that loses her job is under much less pressure from society to quickly find a job than as is a male. My 2 cents worth.

The truth is not so simple.
The statistics often quoted don't tell the whole story. If you want the truth you have to look behind the stats and dissect them.
There is a good book you can look up online called "Why Men Earn More" The most current editions give facts that very few Americans know about. Men do not earn more in all situations.

Despite what the priestesses in your local university's "Gender Studies" department would have you believe, yes. women do receive equal pay for equal work. Study after study after study has been underatken to proove this, yet a lot of 'radical' feminists ignore it because it does not fit in with the culture of victimhood that they've been indoctrinated with. Just like they ignore the well researched fact that women are just as violent with their male partners as men are with their women partners.
Realistically, though, men on average, earn more than the average woman.

The overall average earning of women is less than that of men. However, in the exact same job, they do get the same pay.

No - they absolutely DO NOT - where have you been?
Go to US Dept of Labor website, or census website?
I believe the nationwide ratio is women/men .70/$1.00, and in some regions it's lower or higher than this.
