iTunes gift card-need credit card for itunes account?

Question

I'm gonna get an iPod nano soon, so i was gonna make an account on itunes but it says you need a credit card. Since i am only 13 i dont have one, if i were to buy iTunes gift card would i still need to use a credit card? Or should i ask one of my parents to put in the info of their credit card? Would they be charged- if im using a gift card though? would they see what i bought using the gift card? Or is it only if i start buying things without the giftcard and using the credit card? So do you really need one?

The short answer? No! Yes, when you want to create an account, it does ask for a credit card number, but if you have an iTunes gift card, this is not necessary.

To redeem your gift card, check out http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301958. It's a great site to guide you through redeeming your card, regardless if you have an iTunes online account or not.

All you have to do is go to the iTunes music store on your iTunes program, then click "Redeem" near the top right (under "Quick Links"). Here you type in the numbers, then create your account! Only this way can you select "None" for payment options (where you normally are required to enter credit card details).

Then to get started, you just search up the artist/album/song name. The little icon which says "Buy" allows you to purchase songs for a set amount of money. You can use a credit card, or, as you say, an iTunes gift card.

When you download the file, it is stored on your computer and encoded with some special technology (see the Wikipedia link above, which explains this in more detail).

when you buy the gift card go to the itunes store on your computer then look for prepaid click then put the pin on the back of that card. the answer is you will not need a credit card if you buy the gift card but when your on the menue click [none] next to th credit cards
