Eh, the 78 camaro isn't that great, this was due to the crazy emission controls put on the cars back in 1973. Even the 350's are pretty slow. Also the design doesn't really fit my bill either, obviously the coolest camaro is 68-70, but you probaly can't afford those. I would suggest getting a camaro made in 82-91, the styling (in my opinon) is better, along with the reliabilty and power. Good Luck.

You can't beat a first gen camaro against the others but if you on a budget a 78 can be built at a pretty reasonable price. The color of the car can make or break it. I own a 69 camaro and i couldn't ask for more.

Gm cars and trucks from about 1976 to about 1987 were nothing to brag about. The quality started going up considerably at the end of the 80s. A 78 camaro was a poor example of a performance car.
And I'm a GM guy!

That camaro has a low compression motor with approximately a hundred ninety hp and is tremendously heavy inspite of fiberglass components. If the mustang is a v-8 that is going to smoke you. It has greater horsepower and torque and is lighter. If the 'stang is a v-6, that is going to likely be close. It additionally relies upon on the driving force and rear equipment ratio. I had a seventy one chevelle with a 250 hp 350 and a three:08 equipment. I raced a sixty 8 roadrunner with a 383 4 velocity and four:fifty six equipment. He might beat me on the takeoff if he did not smoke the tires, yet i might beat him interior the long stretch through fact he crowned out too rapid. I enjoyed to race human beings on the line. I consistently gained!

Not bad looking, but they were real dogs in factory form, as the emissions controls were not yet state of the art and car makers were just not interested in making performance vehicles any more at that time.

To me, a Camaro of any year is a beautiful thing. Myself, I used to own a burgundy 1967. She had black leather upholstery and a 4 speed transmission with a Hurst floor shifter, Kreger chrome wheels ,traction bars and headers. My greatest regret in life was selling her.

Pretty cool since you hardly ever see one on the street, hard to find one that isn't a basket case, was at best a C+ vehicle when new and they don't age well.

They are nice, but I'm more partial to the third generation Camaros. :)

They had their day to shine. Now it's all over though. They aren't even at those antique car shows anymore, I think because they burned themselves out in the popularity department.
