You live in a duplex, and you pay between $20-$30 per month for trash service since it's not provided by your landlord. Your trash is picked up on Thursday mornings. Between the time it was picked up and now (Saturday afternoon), you know you haven't put anything in there. Strangely enough, when you go to throw out your trash, the dumpster is half full! And since your neighbors don't have their own trash service, and you've seen them sneaking over to the dumpster next door before, you just KNOW it has to have been them. Do you...

a) Confront them about it directly.
b) Forget about confronting them. You've got enough room to stick the can in your garage, so that's what you do. And if they come to you to complain, THEN you let them have it!
c) Something else (be specific).

when we lived in a duplex our neighbor did not have trash service and could not afford it we offered to let her share ours at half the cost of the service and it worked well. she was a hard worker lived alone and still it was a struggle. so we helped and she paid 1/2 sometimes she couldn't do that but it was ok. if your neighbors are in the same boat maybe the same arrangement can be made. if they are just cheap and want to sponge i would not allow it. don't keep your trash can where they can access it. but if they are just struggleing then be a good neighbor and let them use it. you might need a hand some day. good luck

B) Forget about confronting them. You've got enough room to stick the can in your garage.

If you have a galvanized can that fits in your garage, I would just forget the confrontation and keep the can there until the day it is picked up. I doubt seriously they will complain because as it is "sneaking it in" is what they fill they are getting away with. If they come to ASK where the can is, you could then suggest that they pay half if they would like to use it. You are extending a courtesy and they get the opportunity to be responsible adults instead of getting a "stolen" walk each week.

Why waste your energy confronting them? You work hard all day long and you don't need to waste time with people who do not respect your efforts at paying for trash service. If you can keep it in your garage, they will have to find a way to get their trash dumped or ask if they can help pay for yours and use your can. A confrontation (taken in the wrong way) can lead to a nasty argument that could lead to a fight or worse. It just isn't worth it.

a picture is worth a thousands words, or atleast half the trash bill, it is a crime to illegaly dump and since you rent that dumpster you have the legal right to tell them to stop, in my town they will arrest you for it and put your name in the paper, i read it all the time, if you pay then it is your dumpster, also if they throw illegal things in there like paint ect, you are responsible for it,, the trash company will come after you,, there should be a lock on it,, get a picture of them and then let them know if they want to use your legaly rented dumpster then they have to pitch in the green backs, hope that helps, if they get nasty then keep the picture and threaten to call the cops, but never let them hold the picture, you wont get it back

B --- absolutely!

Should they complain, just kindly and firmly explain you pay monthly for the service. Offer to give them a telephone number so they can arrange their own service.

Answer:
C.

You let them get away with it because in the end does it really matter? I have found that people always get what's coming to them in the end when they are being dishonest.

This should be one less thing in your busy life that you have to worry about.
