what kind of iron on? brands? decals? kilns?

I have seen them done with paint or decoupage then layers of polyurethane applied and I have also seen them done kiln fired(but I guess if you are talking about economical buying a kiln wouldn't be cheap-lol).

I'd go for painting there are gels, acrylics and easy etching techniques. Some need a helping agent to make them compatible with glass/ceramic painting. But are fairly simple & a way to unleash ideas you didn't even know you had. I bought an extremely helpful book that explained what you need - how to do it & easy instructions. Hey, I just thought of decoupage - wine lables with a crackle finish for your tiles. But do remember that glasses have a tendency to stick to slick surfaces - learned the hard way - stuck just long enough to crash back down on glass table! Good luck!
