As the Democrats take control of the Congress, where do you see the country headed on such issues as national security, the war on terror, in Iraq, social security, economic policies, etc?

That's a loaded question, and I hope you don't mind taking some time to read this answer as it will have to touch on multiple intertwined subjects.

Our foreign policy and world image should hopefully improve once Bush is out of power. The Democratic party has always been more apt for making friends outside of our shores, and for stroking the ego of international support. This in turn not only bolsters homegrown economics through production and trade, it also strengthens relationships nation to nation should another such war erupt.

National security? In all truthfulness, our security measures as a nation haven't improved one bit....so I don't see a real change in this.
If all you're doing is scaring people with this alert and that alert and you're not truly telling them why, people understand after awhile that all you're doing is crying wolf.
Hopefully something there will change, we need to make our nation secure from much more than just terrorists.

Social Security = The Governments money cookie jar. It'll be gone in five years or less. The only reason it's still there in the first place is because of the billions upon billions of dollars we're borrowed from the Chinese, and also the rape of the Medicare and Medicaid systems.
It's always been nothing but a Governmentally sponsored Ponzi scheme. The last two generations have consistantly paid and are paying taxes on a system that they'll never see a single penny of in return.

Economic policies? Everything needs to change. I could write a book back in response to this, but I'm just to leave it at this : Everything needs to change, starting with the mindset of the American people.
We need more entrepeneurs in this nation, we don't need more lazy employees.

Hope that helps!

None. The US has the great able army on the planet. Oh, there are a few that can be higher in a method or a further (the Israeli AF is claimed to be the great informed on the planet however do not have close the numbers of the USAF or Navy) China? no approach. Their apparatus is moment cost and technologically a number of generations at the back of the western international. Plus they are not practically as good informed and they've been lowering the dimensions in their military for a number of years now. Russia? See my feedback on China above. Simple truth isn't any different country can fit up soldier for soldier, tank for tank, jet for jet. The US army may be very skilled. After practically 10 years of struggle there may be plenty of enjoy inside the army and enjoy is a drive multiplier. America's squaddies recognise what to do in a combat. There are just a hand stuffed with nations that experience that style of enjoy and we can no longer be going to struggle towards Britain, Holland, Poland, or any of our different allies.

that is a pretty loaded question and answer even for an experienced politician. so i will try to answer it as "non-politician" -- rather an observer of national & international politics. there is a saying in french -- plus ca change plus c'est la meme chose. the more it changes the more it remains the same--well the recent changes in the us political scene is likely to bring no change at all. why? because it is only in 2 yrs. time usa will elect a new president and then we can look forward to some change gradually. as for the bush administration rating -- only history can tell. your question has many angles...and economics, national security, irak, what about social security etc...some are tied to each other...and many are dependent on each other...irak will remain in status quo -- economic policies..stedy the same course...the war on terror...will become more and more "tech oriented" (cameras etc.) but internet will play an active role..in re-educating the people about dangers and hopefully there will be pressure on all societies to be more tolerant. that is a brief review of a very long subject. hope it helps -- is it really for your school project?

The Democratic control comes in waves... a few years here, a few years there, after their media cronies bleat their tale of woe under conservative administrations. Each time under the liberals we move a lttle bit closer to Totalitarian Socialism and each time under them the economy goes to hell-in-a-handbasket... each time (after the damage) the conservatives win out over symbolism, smoke, and mirrors. But we never move back.

I give it another 30 years. Ask yourself this, how much notice did the Soviet citizen get when the U.S.S.R. (and all it's utopian cradle to grave programs) folded ???

All of the domestic issues will improve. that is a strong point of the democrats. and more people will be able to be helped by the economy. and troops will slowly and gradually be redeployed from iraq to end this pointless war.

AS for terrorism and nat'l security, I am a bit concerned, because of the jubilant reaction of Al-Quaeda to the Dems' win and their promises of more attacks as a result.

I don't know what will happen but I'll tell you what I would like to happen. I would like to see Patriot Act, and Military Commissions Act 2006(HR 6166) repealed. I would also like to see GW impeached and put on trial for War Crimes.
