Oh there's lovely children's story books you can get, someone at the library or at a book store can make recommendations for both girls. There are lots of games like Uno and Memory games and other games the little one could play . For the older girl there are tons of games both board and on dvd. Trivial Pursuit for kids, Clue, the game of Life .
I love the cute stuffed animals dogs cats etc they have now that actually sound like the animal. Then of course there's all the old disney movies on dvd, Bambi, Cinderella, Snow White, 101 Dalmations, Little Mermaid, the original Hayley Mills movies like Parent Trap, Summer Magic , the Moonspinners.
There's lots of crafty things , with age ranges on them from sticker books to paints to playdough.
Wish I had little kids I could go shopping for , I loved it when my nephew and god children were little.

Do little girls have interests in video games? I know gamecube has some games like mario and barbie and playstation has like the rpgs but they seem too young for that. You can get your 5 year old a doll? Or even better, you can get them both a trip to Disneyland or Disneyworld.

Why dont you get them something they can play with all the time like a dolls house and furniture etc? Much better than getting square eyes watching/playing tv games. And it is something they can both play with or play with singly and it will encourage their imagination.

have 3 boys but I love shopping for my nieces!...I usually get crafty stuff..make your own candles...pottery...beads, beads and more beads...etc.
The "sisters" of the soccer teammates usually work on bead making or friendship bracelets while they are at the games..great sideline fun.
also, for your 5 year old...A leapster is GREAT! educational and fun...my 5 year old boy loves his and they have dora games...girl stuff..etc..best purchase I ever made in the toy department!!
