Everytime I start writing a book, I get stuck on this one thing-names. I can spend forever sitting in my chari brainstorming for names for the characters. Any boy/girl names would be a great help!

Specifically...

-A geeky-ish 13-year-old girl. Loner, smart, bookworm, shy, has a soft voice. (ex. Natalie or Rachel)

-A popular, spoiled, but nice to everyone teenager girl. Everyone envys her. A hard-to-forget name. (ex. Olivia or Megan)

Especially guy names. I never can think of any good guy names!

I tried the internet and baby websites. It sort of worked...but a lot of them were really exotic and yeah.

Robert is a good guy name because his mother can call him Robert (formal), the socialite might call him Bobby to put him down, but he could prefer being called Rob, not Bob. It could help define his relationships with the others by the variations in his name.

Vivian is an excellent name for the socialite. It comes from the word Vivacious or "full of life"

The loner could be called Fern. It's a soft sound and odd enough that you can just imagine her parents were out of the mainstream.

Sometimes it's better to create the character, then name it. When a character is well developed, they tend to talk to you and will nix any name they really hate.

To get ideas for future characters, go walk through the cemetary. When you see a name you like, note the birthdate. That's when that name was popular. For instance there's a lot of 90-100 year old women named Grace. The name got popular again when Grace Kelly was a big star (1940s-1950s) and came back again in the 1980s and 1990s because of programs like Will and Grace and Grace Under Fire.

I too write~
Get a baby names book and look them up.

Each name has a meaning and it depends on the "soul" of that character and how they are going to evolve.

I also use historical reference and biblical references for the stronger characters- they have a "link" to another such person, that will automatically give the character depth.

You must show depth in your story, not just on the complexity of the written word. Its the details that make it more "rich". The location, colors, cars, personality traits, relationships, character "verbiage" and even pets.

Best wishes.

well, I'm not sure. My brother and I are writing a book, and we got stuck on the name part too. We took suggestions from our friends, and finally we agreed on common names.
I already decided that when I have kids, if it's a girl, I'll name her Moonlight. That's the name of the street where my aunt lives, and I saw it, and I loved it immedietly. I yelled, "Mom, I wanna name my kid Moonlight!!" and she laughed.
If it's a boy, I am going to name him Kenneth. :) Feel free to use any of these names for your book.

The nerdy girl is Karen. The popular girl is Vivian.
Girls' names are easy. Guys' names are hard because they sound either too common (e.g., Dan or Steve), or ridiculous (e.g., Garth or Reginald).
