I have switched the Bolier / heating off for safety. The Plumber is not available to come over until Monday. Therefore want to know what the problem is

you may have a slight leak, the smell is from a system enhancer/cleaner called FERNOX, it has a very sweet sharp smell. Locate where it is strongest smelling and tell your plumber when he arrives.

To get a smell of Fernox from a leak I think your wellies would be letting in water. Think it may be a cable getting hot or more likely the capacitor in the pump especially if the pump is an old Grundfos red / orange in colour and is in the boiler casing or near to, the capacitor smells a bit like TCP when they leak.

Take the bottle of TCP off the top of the boiler.

Definately an electrical cable overheating. get it seen to ... QUICK.
