Pritt stick is for paper, card, photographs. It is non-toxic and not messy so ideal for children.
Contact glues, super glue & epoxy resin. are very strong glues which will stick most things.
PVA comes in various qualities. The washable type is good for children as it will come out of clothes. They are all white but dry transparent and can be used for general gluing, to attach small gemstones to card. Better quality thicker PVA can be mounded up and sprinkled with glitter for a 3D effect. You can thin it with water to use as a glaze e.g to protect pressed flower arrangements. It can be painted over papier mache items to add strength- some people use it to make papier mache but I find it too sticky and prefer to use Scola Cell which is like wallpaper paste but without the fungicide. PVA will not stick to polythene so you can put a layer over a polythene bag and when it is dry peel it off and cut it into shapes-if you add coloured drawing inks you get translucent colours or add a pigment such as poster paint for opaque colours..
Uhu Creativ' Range does speciality glues for :-
foam, rubber and flexible materials
metal, glass & ceramics
polystyrene foam and craft foils
fabrics, felt and ribbons
plastic & miniatures
mosaic.
3M do various craft spray glues. Spray Mount is the most popular. This gives a light bond and can be peeled off if you want to move it later. Sprays give an even coating if you want to get a good flat bond when sticking paper to card but are expensive and wasteful. An alternative is Letraset Studio Tac which is available in a roll or A4 sheets and achieves the same effect for a lower price but takes a bit more time.
There are lots of other glues including double sided sticky pads in lots of sizes for 3D decoupage, double sided tape, roll on glues, invisible glues for use with translucent materials etc. etc. etc.
