I am usually the Scrooge of the bunch, I am the one who wishes she can hibernate from daylights saving time til Jan 6. Holidays are really stressful, its not bad after the meal its the beforehand crap that i cannot stand. The lines need to be ironed and the silver needs to be polished and all the dishes and crystal needs to be washed. (its the only time of the year we use the stuff and honestly i'd be happy with paper plates and mardi gras cups)The house has to be cleaned **** and span and then go through the white glove inspection. Mom stress which stresses dad, (its kinda funny now because as adults my brother and i call her on it) Then you have the fact that my grandfather died Christmas morning. The holidays used to suck, but for some strange reason I am really ready for the holidays. I am going home for Thanksgiving (probably not Christmas) even a couple of days in advance to help. I cannot wait for the w/e after Thanksgiving. I refuse to start with Christmas music or movies or decorating til after Thanksgiving. I found a bunch of my great grandmother's cookie recipes (she and her daughters used to do these huge bakings and each family got a huge bag of cookies--them you'd swap with the cousins, because there was always something that one person didn't like that the others did---well i've got the recipes in herown handwriting and I am ready to bake, drink some eggnog and watch A Charlie Brown Christmas.!

Sadly I think that the overwhelming majority of people have got caught up in a "compulsive habit" A silly ritual that they keep up because "everybody does it" You go out and buy cards, and gifts for members of the family you can't stand, and hardly even connect with the rest of the year, and do the same fora bunch of other people, because secretly, in some little corner of yourself, YOU want to be the one who does it first and then get a kick out of imagining them scrabbling at the last minute to go out and buy YOU something. LOL
It's all something that has gotten "hardwired" into our brains from early childhood, to the point where we don't even realise that we are doing it now like a bunch of zombie robots. A family invites a bunch of friends and family to come to their place f or the traditional christmas dinner, and spending the day. And then they leave, with the house in a mess, and a floor to ceiling stack of dishes to deal with, and all the doggone leftovers to clear away and cram in the f ridge or freezer. The woman of the house is exhausted, and going around examining the damage to the floor, the carpet, ,the furniture and a few other things, from drunken family members and unruly kids. Then it's January here come the credit card bills. People all over are singing the same song..."Ohhhh, thank goodness it's all over." If Christmas were so wonderful, why wouldn't they be sad it was all over? But there they are again a year later, just like the same robot zombies they were last year, doing it allllll over again. In this household, the friends that we have, we like and care about so much that we don't need one particular moment in the year to "show it". We daily try to interract with them in the right kind of loving way that friendship is supposed to be about. We were strong and self- confident enough to get off that wacky Christmas merry-go-round years ago, and guess what... we never lost a single friend over it LOL.

I love Christmas time. Not just the day, but the weeks before it. It's a shame people are so against it, it's really one of the best times of the year.

Christmas is a nightmare if you ask me. It's lost any of its original meaning and is drowning in a sea of retail, presents, and showing people up. I personally could care less about Christmas.
