bush is to blame.....American voters didn't have a say nor vote in the war issue....they just had to let Bush do as he pleased w/ his powers.
but our power as the people is to take that power from him....and we just did that in the last election by removing his party from congress and putting in the other party. this now stops the free money train and war campaign and he must now get a vote on each and every item that is to be done.
democracy works.....but like anything...its never instant...gotta have faith in the system. its slow and rusty at times but it still works.

I partly blame the American voters who voted for Bush, both times. The guy is the son of a former pres. who still had an agenda. The whole cabinet were his dad's old cronies and have strong oil ties. Some of us could look ahead and know what all that means. So here we are. It is better late than never that voters have come to their senses. The above quote shows the extent of the arrogance of the Bush administration, and proves that he misunderstood and underestimated the American people.

The previous nine answers are wrong. Saddam Hussain is to
blame, along with a bunch of very greedy bastards that were
robbing the Oil for Food program, including members of the U.N.
Saddam Hussain was a loose cannon and had to be stopped,
regardless of the excuses to justify the invasion. Noone envisioned the insurgency and most thought that we would be
welcomed with welcome arms. The news only reports the bad
stuff, but a lot of good stuff is happening over there. You dont
hear any Kurds complaining (25 % of iraqi population) they are
dancing in the street and building huge shopping and movie complexes. Hear any complaints from the Shiites in the largest
marshland in the world in southern Iraq, where Saddam drained
the marshes in order to screw them and how about the families
of people that Saddams sons pushed off roof tops to kill them.
Folks that have money to invest are dancing a jig, because the
stock market is soaring. All you hear about is a handfull of idiots
that have nothing else to live for and are brainwashed into killing
themselves and anybody else, Sunnis that were Saddams chosen few and were pampered and now are not and outside
influence the would not like to see the new Government succeed.
Dont just be a parrot - Pay attention !

It all boils down to this. The congress authorized troops to go into Iraq.
The American voters elected the congress, who represent us, the people.
So, yes, we are responsible. Bush could not have sent troops, without congressional authorization

The House and Senate that read all the intelligent reports and voted yes on going to war as required by law.
the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Public law 107-243, 116 Stat. 1497-1502) was a law passed by the United States Congress authorizing what was soon to become the Iraq War. The authorization was sought by President George W. Bush. Introduced as H.J.Res. 114, it passed the House on October 10 by a vote of 296-133, and by the Senate on October 11 by a vote of 77-23. It was signed into law by President Bush on October 16, 2002.
It authorized the United States to use military force to "defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions regarding Iraq."

The U.S. people assumed full responsibility for his actions when we re-elected him. He was not wrong at the time, but his handling of the next two years cost his Party both Houses. It's the same thing that happened to the Dem's in '94, the G.O.P. had stayed in power long enough to get complacent. They thought they could ignore the popular sentiments, and it cost them. If the Dem's have a clear plan of action I sure haven't heard it, but without one, and a clear explanation of it, their victory is likely to be short lived.

I don't remember bush asking for my vote to go to war. He thought because he was elected a second time the voters gave him permission to do anything he wanted.Well, he found out differently.

I don't think anyone is to "blame" for the "occupation". It was generally supported by voters, congress, and the president to enter Iraq. However, the PEACE-KEEPING efforts of US troops have failed because, undeniably, the Bush administration has failed to create and implement successful strategies.

Bush and Co, they went into Iraq without evidence or proof. They did not plan occupation very well. There was no immediate agenda or plan when our soldiers arrived in Iraq. This whole war was not well thought- out or planned.
