I have a child that leaves prints on our dark wood furniture. I have tried a few polish products like Pledge, but the wood ends up looking greasy and blotchy. I still have a lot of spots even when using water and dish soap to clean. Getting frustrated, any tips appreciated!

I think the detergent may be what's causing the spots. The wood soaps like Murphy's Oil Soap have oil in them to make wood glow, but detergents dissolve oils and dry out the wood making it dull.
Both the Scott's Liquid Gold and the Murphy's Oil Soaps are excellent wood cleaners but this site offers the much cheaper alternatives and are made with simple ingredients from the hardware store. Scroll down to w to see the wood formulas.
