One out of ten does that seem like alot or a risk worth taking?

If the child has a one out of ten chance of a horrible life, is that a lot?

Seems rather high?

I would ask, risk of what? And what would you do about it? I would suggest if you can detect it early enough, and believe it's a reason to abort, then no big deal.

If you're giving yourself a 10% chance of spending the rest of your life changing diapers and pushing a wheelchair with a turnip in it - or worse, and intelligent human being who can see what they're missing - maybe not worth it.

You'd be amazed how many marriages fail due to "special needs" children. It can be a strain, and any other, normal children or spouse may feel they are being neglected or ignored.

Well, I have to say, you have the other 90% on your side, now how big does that risk seem compared to 90%? You have to consider how you will cope if the other 10% does ring true hun, there is a risk, but theres a risk with everything people want. Only you can answer this, think about it carefully, and be prepared for any outcome. Hope this helped xx

Crossing the road is a risk. Getting out of bed is a risk. 10% isn't so bad if you want a baby. Like others have pointed out - think of it as a 90% chance of everything being ok.

That's a very small risk. Look at it this way: 90% chance they won't have a birth defect. And what if they do? Who cares? Surely you'd love them anyway, right?

I always flip the question around and ask myself, if I have a 10% chance of winning the lottery, how good would I feel my chances are of winning the lottery, and would I buy a ticket?

I guess it also depends on what the birth defect is.

It is quite a small chance, but think about the what the defect will be, and would you be able to cope with it.

Do you have other children, and will they suffer.

Good luck.

well think of it this way. count up ten people you know and figure one of them would have said problem. or figure it this way if you had ten kids at least one would have a problem. it depends on the defect and how willing you are to take care of a baby with high needs.
